The New York State Education Department (NYSED) hired a number of partners to help them build an Education Data Portal (EDP), a state-of-the art, highly scalable, open source, technology platform with exceptional professional services that would enable breakthrough efficiencies in teaching and learning.
The EDP
Students, teachers, parents, and school and district administrators did not have one single portal to access data and resources to inform decision-making related to instruction, assessment, and career and college goals. Without a single location, no one could see a detailed diagnostic breakdown of a child’s performance and find resources that were aligned to a learner’s knowledge and skill areas that required extra attention. The EDP was aimed at addressing these issues.
The EDP CMS
NYSED had a website that housed resources for educators, but it was not tightly linked to personalized learning and standards, which made it difficult for educators to find and share great curriculums/resources, discuss those resources with families to better support their student’s learning and instructional needs, and provide students with interactive, rich educational resources that are tightly aligned to the common core standards. NYSED wanted to enhance their instructional resource system so that data about a student was more tightly aligned with curriculum and instructional resources by ways of intuitive navigation, integrated search functions, and recommendation engines that easily support individual diagnostic of learning needs.
